Second Graders Conduct a Pollinator Census

Second Graders Visit the Sugar Hill Community Garden

The 2nd graders at White Oak went on a field trip to the Sugar Hill Community Garden to conduct another pollinator census! We were hosted by members of the Community Garden and had a wonderful time exploring and observing the 132 garden plots. Students explored the garden for a few minutes before they chose the plant where they would conduct their 15-minute pollinator census. We saw many butterflies, bumblebees, carpenter bees, and even a few chrysalises during our observations! We graphed our results in our STEM journals when we returned to school and compared the results from the census in the White Oak garden to the one taken at the Sugar Hill Community Garden. We are looking forward to returning at the end of the school year to conduct another census and compare the results from the fall and spring. Thank you so much to all of the members of the Sugar Hill Community Garden for welcoming us into their space.
