Magnets and Design Thinking

Magnets and Design Thinking

The fifth-grade students used their knowledge of magnetic fields and their interaction with materials in a hands-on and collaborative design challenge. Students were able to evaluate the phenomenon and design their own learning game that used a magnet to get the appearance of a “moving object.”  The teams made a plan, then they worked with their teammates to build the learning game. After they built their creation, each team shared the process of design thinking and ultimately their prototype.

Driving question: How can we design a learning game that incorporates the use of magnets and their magnetic field that gives the effect of “moving objects” that makes learning and playing easier or more engaging for children?
