• Web Resources for Students & Teachers

    Here are some great presentations tools and other resources to use in place of writing a paper or creating a PowerPoint presentation. Many of these tools are free; some are not. 

    YouTube provides step-by-step, user friendly tutorials on just about all of these.

  • Presentation Tools

    Animoto: Create easy videos and presentations using photos, images, videos, and music. Free 14-day trial. Teachers can create accounts for their classes.
    Book Creator: Teachers can use this resource in the classroom for students to create content.
    Canva: Simple drag-and-drop design software to create flyers, posters, invitations, brochures, infographics, and more. Students must use a personal account; Canva is not available to students through their school gmail. Teachers may use their work email to create an account.
    EMaze: Great presentation tool for teachers and students - similar to Prezi
    iSpring: Convert PowerPoint to Flash presentations
    Kizoa: Online Video Editor, Movie Maker, and Slideshow Creator
    Padlet: An online virtual “bulletin” board, where students and teachers can collaborate, reflect, share links and pictures, in a secure location.
    Piktochart: Create easy, fun infographics to convey information visually
    Popplet: Create digital idea webs, collect materials related to a subject, or create a digital posterboard
    PowToon: Create animated videos and presentations

    Prezi: A fun alternative to PowerPoint that allows you to organize your information visually
    Timeline:Teachers can create digital timelines that can include content from a variety of online resources including YouTube, Flikr, Google Maps, etc. Students should use Visme instead, as this resource requires Adobe Flash Player, not available on Chromebooks.
    Tagul: Create word clouds of tags or links to present ideas visually. Must create a free account.
    Tinyurl: Create short, customizable, easy to remember web addresses in place of long, unwieldly addresses to easily direct students to a site and won't break in email postings

    Visme: Create stunning presentations, infographics and other visual content in minutes. Students must use a personal account, not their school gmail.
    Voki: Create a digital avatar to deliver your message in the classroom, on a blog, a website, or as part of a presentation
    WeVideo: Edit video collaboratively in the cloud, then share with others. Free with account (requires a subscription for many of the features). Good for smart phone capability.
    Wix: Website creator with a variety of templates and tools for a professional-looking site. advanced uses Artificial Intelligence to automatically create your site.
    Write the World: A community of young writers. Students can use prompts, enter competitions, and share work with other young adult writers.

  • Pictures and Images

    Mixbook:  Create custom photo books, scrapbooks, or cards. Must pay to print out.
    PicMonkey: Free trial period. Edit photos and create custom collages. Students must use a personal account.
    Pics4learning: Free copyright-friendly images for educational ​use.
    Piktochart: Create easy, fun infographics to convey information visually
    Tagul: Create word clouds of tags or links to present ideas visually
    Tagxedo: Word clouds created in a customizable shape (faces, countries, letters). Must download Silverlight (free).

  • Video and Audio Resources

    AudioMass: Free open source Audio and Waveform Editor. Must be downloaded.
    Jing: Create videos of what you see on your computer screen to share with others. Requires a subscription.
    Moovly: Easy video creation for students, teachers or administrators. Great for classroom assignments, presentations, video journalism or school marketing!
    Screencast-o-matic: Create videos of what's happening on your computer screen to share with others. Requires a payment plan.
    The Flipped Class Network: A professional learning network for teachers using screencasting in education 
    Voki: Create a digital avatar to deliver your message in the classroom, on a blog, a website, or as part of a presentation

  • Quizzes and Polls

    BrainRush: Teachers can use and create games to help students memorize facts.
    LimeSurvey: Free Open-source Software Survey tool.  Must download.
    Poll Everywhere: Create quick polls that collect responses via text, web, or Twitter
    Polldaddy: Create surveys, polls, and quizzes, then generate reports on the results. Must pay to promote polls.
    Survey Monkey: Create and distribute your own survey, then analyze the results
    Quizlet: Study site that allows students to create customized learning tools, games, and digital flashcards 

  • Educational Media

    Associated Press: One of the least biased news sources.
    C-SPAN: C-SPAN's entire repository of videos about Congress, Politics, books, and American History. Note that current events articles could show bias.
    Discovery Education: Lesson plans and resources for teachers sorted by grade level and subject. See media specialist for Mill Creek code to create a free account.
    HippoCampus: Find educational media by subject area (especially math and sciences), create your own playlist, and share with students  
    Khan Academy: Repository of video lessons, sorted by subject, on topics related to math, the sciences, the humanities, and test prep
    Nearpod: A classroom tool for teachers to engage students with interactive lessons.  Available through the portal access to Safari Montage.
    Reuters: One of the least biased news sources.
    Show Me: Online video lessons organized by subject. You can also create your own videos. Requires payment for full access.
    TED Talks: Videos of talks given at TED conferences on subjects ranging from education to particle physics, sortable by subject, length, or rating
    Watch Know Learn: Educational videos organized by subject and audience

    Pear Deck: Communication platform that lets teachers create interactive assessments and presentations with Google Slides that students can follow along on their devices.

    QR Code Generator: Free QR Code generator
    Remind: site that allows teachers to safely text students homework, project, and test reminders, and stay in touch with parents
    Trello: Project Management Tool. Trello’s boards, lists, and cards enable you to organize and prioritize your projects in a fun, flexible and rewarding way. Requires payment. Also available in an app.
    Zunal: Free, online WebQuest maker

    GeoGebra: GeoGebra is dynamic mathematics software for all levels of education that brings together geometry, algebra, spreadsheets, graphing, statistics and calculus in one easy-to-use package.

    Tutor.com from Gwinnett County Public Library. Use your school ID number and PIN (two-digit birth month and two-digit birth day) to access tutoring services.
