“Take 5” 2023 Summer Checkout

  • According to the Georgia Department of Education, reading loss, sometimes up to a 2-3 month loss, occurs for most children when they are not in a formal learning environment or not engaged in any form of educational activities during the summer. Research by Harvard University Professor Dr. James Kim has shown that “when students read a minimum of eight high-interest, ability appropriate books over the summer, their reading skills grow as much as students who attend summer school.”
Osborne Media Center invites students to borrow up to five books of their choice to read over the summer. In order to check out these books, students must meet the following criteria:

    • Be a rising 7th or 8th grade student at Osborne Middle School for the 2023-2024 school year.
    • Return all materials borrowed during the current school year (all books are due Friday, May 12).
    • Have a clean library record: all materials returned and any fines paid.
    • Turn in a signed permission form (see below) to the Media Center to check out books May 19-23.
    • Return all books to the Osborne Media Center the first day of school (August 2, 2022).
